AKRON, Ohio - The city of Akron has partnered with Service Line Warranties of America to offer residents water service line warranties.

The voluntary program covers damage to pipes on residents' property, which aren't covered by the city or through homeowner's insurance.

"Far too many homeowners are unaware that they are responsible for any repairs needed as a result of damage to the water service lines on their property," said John O. Moore, Akron's Director of Public Service in a news release. "This means that homeowners can be stuck with the hassle and expense of the repair - from identifying a good contractor and scheduling time for the repair to be done to finding extra money in the budget to cover the cost of the repair."

Coverage is $3.57 per month and includes access to a 24-hour hotline to dispatch a local, licensed contractor to assist with repairs. Coverage is immediate (30-day waiting period waived) and covers up to $8,500 per incident, with no deductibles or annual caps.

Since 2003, Service Line Warranties of America has partnered with more than 400 cities and municipalities to offer service repair plans for residents. To learn more about the service or to enroll, call 866-922-9006 or visit www.slwofa.com.
